The heat is turning up this summer, and who better to curate your heatwave soundtrack than the couple with no swag gap: Izzy and Emma. Posting under the TikTok handle @turtlewithhat_, the duo have built a devoted online following for their absurdist humour and unconventional spin on couples content.

Catch them online, taking their chaos across the States, cosplaying as Love Islanders on TikTok or hanging out with fellow internet duo Hamzah and Martin. The pair tell us they’ve spent the summer “dancing, driving around, laughing, gaming, and scrapbooking”, and now we pass them the aux as they put together the ultimate summer soundtrack.

What song instantly makes you feel like summer has started?

Izzy and Emma: We’ve been watching the “Mojo So Dope” music video by Kid Cudi and listening to the song over and over again this summer. Top tier energy. It makes us feel cool through the heat of the summer.

What’s the best song for a summer drive?

Izzy and Emma: “Unknown Lovers” by Slayyyter, “Blue Strips” by Jessie Murph, “I’ll Take It” by Sophia Stel, or “Jeep” by Kim Petras.

What’s a song you’d play for your summer crush?

Izzy and Emma: We love “Phoebe” by Audrey Hobert or “Taxes” by Geese because they are honest about how we feel. Honesty is the best policy.

Talk us through a track on the playlist and what it means to you.

Izzy: One of my favourite songs right now is “Que Locura Enamorarme De Ti” by Eddie Santiago. The song is about someone who is in love with a person who is not available, and how painful it is to hide their feelings. 

Although this wasn’t our exact situation, Emma and I started as best friends when we were young, and I felt like my heart was bursting every day, begging to confess my feelings. I even drew her a photo and hid writing in the background saying “I Love You.” I was 16, and we weren’t romantically together.

There’s one line where he says, “Sí creo que antes de nacer te estaba amando,” which basically means, “I believe I’ve loved you long before I was born.” I think that’s true to how I feel about my love for Emma.

Emma: I listened to “I Believe in You” by Kylie Minogue for the first time this summer. This song feels like magic. I think it’s a multifaceted love song: to someone you love, to yourself, and to the universe.

We were on a long road trip; I was in the passenger seat with Izzy driving, and the song came on as a pleasant surprise. Even though we had been driving for a while, we both almost instantly felt revitalised. I felt so connected to Izzy. The memory holds a lot of light and love. A wonderful song, indeed.
