Afterwards, celebrities and fans joined together to show their support for the pop star online via the #FreeBritney banner. Now, fellow musician, Mickey Mouse Club comrade, and Y2K icon, Christina Aguilera has posted an open letter on Twitter, showing words of support for the singer. In the note, Aguilera addressed Britney’s personal testimony in court – in which Spears explained that her conservatorship has robbed her of control over her finances, career, personal relationships, and other aspects of her life. Xtina first noted in her post that she had been thinking about Britney and “everything she has been going through”. “It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish,” she said. Further, Aguilera stated: “Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing, and her own happiness.” In her conservatorship testimony, Spears explained that her father would not let her take out her IUD, inhumanely stripping the singer of her right to have a baby with her boyfriend. “The conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control,” continued Aguilera. “My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.” These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through. It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish. pic.twitter.com/NRhNwcJaD3— Christina Aguilera (@xtina) June 29, 2021 Aguilera and Spears first met working on The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in 1990, along with early 00s stars Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Keri Russell, and Ryan Gosling. At the 2003 VMAs, the two singers performed a legendary mash-up of “Like A Virgin” and “Hollywood” together alongside Madonna, herself, and Missy Elliot. Other celebrities who have spoken up in support of the singer include Mariah Carey, Halsey, Tinashe, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Justin Timberlake – who posted an apology to Spears after The New York Time’s documentary Framing Britney Spears came out. The film revealed details of the singer’s conservatorship battle, building concern for the singer’s wellbeing. Elsewhere, the CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Alexis McGill Johnson, issued a statement in solidarity with Spears, in response to the singer’s claims about her IUD. "We stand in solidarity with Britney and all women who face reproductive coercion. Your reproductive health is your own – and no one should make decisions about it for you.” she said. “Every person should have the ability to make their own decisions about their bodies and exercise bodily autonomy.” Read Aguilera’s full letter below. “To be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support by those “close” to you is the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable. The harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly. Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness. While I am not behind the closed doors of this very layered & personal yet public conversation – all I can do is share from my heart on what I’ve heard, read and seen in the media. The conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control. To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life. My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.” Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday. Privacy policy Thank you.
