The fashion industry has had its eye on Apple Martin ever since she appeared on the Marty Supreme red carpet alongside her mother, Gywneth Paltrow, last December. For the occasion, Apple wore the exact black Calvin Klein gown her mother wore to the premiere of Emma in 1996. Her father is, of course, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, making her an A-list nepo baby and the ideal candidate for fashion’s favourite new It Girl. This morning (October 1), she clinched that title, making her runway debut at Chloé’s SS27 show. Already a muse to creative director Chemena Kamali, Apple appeared in Chloé’s À La Plage campaign earlier this summer, so walking in today’s show was the natural next step. While neither of her parents were spotted on the front row, there were many other familiar faces, including Alexa Chung, Emma Mackey, Camille Rowe, Natasha Lyonne and Pixie Geldof. Basically, think of any stylish woman with slightly bedraggled hair – likely to be spotted at Glastonbury come rain or shine – and she was present at today’s Chloé show. Photo by Kristy Sparow/Getty Images Beyond the guests, it was an all-star line-up on the catwalk too. Joining Apple were super models Eva Herzigová, Edie Campbell, Mona Tougaard and Mariacarla Boscono. They floated down the runway in prairie dresses, sweeping bonnets, frilled wench-like blouses, coquettish frou-frou skirts, flared cut-offs and frilled bloomers. Looking at her designs, you can tell immediately what type of music Kamali listens to – her work brings to mind the women of Laurel Canyon, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Basically, if they could’ve played at Woodstock 69, Kamali is probably a fan. The German designer has been at Chloé for three years now and has grown progressively more boho with each new collection. Not only are they clothes primed for festival season, but for Gen Z women all around the world. Take a stroll through east London and you’ll see at least five girls wearing Chloé-inspired 70s garb – scalloped-edge bloomers with chunky brown boots, tasselled waistcoats, oversized belts and tiny round sunglasses. Recently, there’s been rumours circling the industry that Kamali might not be sticking around at the brand for much longer. But whether that’s true or not, we’ll be seeing the echoes of her work for a long while yet. Escape the algorithm!
