Sneaker culture has always been quick to embrace what’s next, and while Cher’s digitised wardrobe in Clueless once felt like the height of futuristic fashion, we’ve since moved on to things we probably could not have imagined back then. Take, for instance, the use of 3D printing in fashion, which has gone from a concept that felt limited to experimentation to now being sold to anyone across the world. Officially released next spring, adidas’ latest sneaker, Futurecool, uses technology to create a seamless, entirely 3D-printed design.

The new silhouette follows adidas’ earlier 3D-printed footwear experiments, which used additive manufacturing to create its distinctive lattice midsole. Futurecool takes the technology further, with the entire shoe 3D-printed as a single structure.

Built on adidas’ Climacool technology, Futurecool has a distinctly futuristic shape, with sculpted proportions, flowing curves and the brand’s signature Three Stripes worked into the design. The construction is designed to provide 360-degree ventilation, while its seamless build is intended to adapt to the foot for a second-skin feel. It is made using resin and specialised materials, combining the flexibility needed for everyday wear with the durability of a more conventional sneaker.

“Futurecool redefines what a sneaker can be, combining advanced printing technology and engineering with a design that looks and feels like nothing you have worn before,” explains Alexander Taylor, SVP of Innovation Design at adidas. “It’s designed for those who want to embrace the future before it becomes mainstream.”

If you want to get your hands on a pair before everyone else, adidas is releasing just 400 individually numbered pairs through a raffle on the CONFIRMED app from 28 August. The wider Futurecool release will then follow on 1 April 2027.
